Vaginal Infections and Discharge

Vaginal discharges can be normal secretions from the vagina during different stages of the menstrual cycle. The consistency of the discharge can vary as your cycle progresses and is considered normal for most women of childbearing age. Normal discharge is usually clear nor white and odorless, without any other symptoms.

It is important to note any changes in vaginal discharge, as this can indicate an infection or other problem.

Changes might include:

  • Increase in the amount of discharge
  • Different color or smell
  • Irritation, itchiness or burning around the vagina

If you are experiencing any of these changes, it may be signs of an infection.

THE POST MENOPAUSAL PATIENT WHO EXPERIENCES ANY UNUSUAL DISCHARGE OR SYMPTOMS NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED, AS IT MAY INDICATE A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
